Professional CLABE Validation for Mexican Payments

IbanVerify delivers enterprise-grade Clave Bancaria Estandarizada (CLABE) validation trusted by fintechs, multinational corporations, and payment platforms operating in Mexico. Our service is built on a continuously refreshed registry of all Banco de México-registered institutions, ensuring every SPEI transfer and electronic payment you process is verified against authoritative, up-to-date banking records.

Data Integrity & Compliance

Our CLABE validation engine cross-references the official Banco de México bank-code registry and applies the standard weighted-sum check-digit algorithm on every request. This dual approach catches both structural errors and unrecognised institution codes before a single centavo leaves your account.

Regulatory Note: SPEI transfers are governed by Banco de México circular SPEI rules. Pre-validating CLABEs at the point of collection is the simplest way to reduce SPEI return events and the associated operational costs.

Understanding the CLABE Number

Mexico's CLABE (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada) was introduced in 2004 to standardise interbank electronic fund transfers across the country. Every bank account held at a Banco de México-regulated institution is assigned a unique 18-digit CLABE, making it the universal payment identifier for all SPEI, CoDi, and direct-credit operations in Mexico.

18-Digit Structure (BBBSSSCCCCCCCCCCCD)

The CLABE is composed of four logical segments:

  • BBB — 3-digit bank code (institution identifier)
  • SSS — 3-digit city/plaza code (branch region)
  • CCCCCCCCCCC — 11-digit account number
  • D — 1-digit check digit (weighted modulo-10)
SPEI & CoDi Payments

The CLABE is the gateway to Mexico's two main interbank rails. SPEI (Sistema de Pagos Electrónicos Interbancarios) is the real-time gross settlement system used for transfers between any two Mexican bank accounts. CoDi (Cobro Digital) is Banco de México's mobile QR-code payment overlay, also anchored to the CLABE. Both require a valid, active CLABE to function.

Why Businesses Rely on CLABE Validation

A single incorrect digit in an 18-character CLABE can silently route funds to the wrong account or trigger a costly SPEI return. IbanVerify eliminates these risks by providing:

  • Pre-Transfer Accuracy — Validate CLABEs before initiating SPEI batches or individual transfers, achieving near-zero payment-return rates
  • Full Bank & Branch Intelligence — Retrieve institution name, plaza code, address, city, and state in a single API call for comprehensive payee due diligence
  • Supplier & Vendor Onboarding — Embed CLABE validation into supplier registration forms to prevent incorrect bank details entering your ERP system
  • Gig Economy & Payroll — Verify contractor and employee CLABEs at onboarding, eliminating failed payroll disbursements on the first payment run
  • Anti-Fraud Screening — Flag CLABEs that fail check-digit validation or reference unrecognised institution codes — a common indicator of fraudulent payee records
  • Cost Reduction — Avoid SPEI return fees and the operational cost of investigating and reprocessing failed transfers across Mexican banking networks
